Quad antennas are famous DX antennas among ham radio operators: this is because of their low reception angle (important for DX-signals!), which is achieved at relatively low heights already - even the values of comparable shortwave beams are surpassed by Quads.
Assembly also is simple: The balun-housing has to be put over the tower (it will automatically be hold by the right conical segment) and additional horizontal fiberglas-segments are stuck on the housing. So the tower and the horizontal elements form a cross, where the antenna wire is fixed to. The wire is equipped with eyes which only has to be stuck over the outer fiberglass-segments.
Contrary to long wire antennas this solution offers good signal levels all over the classical short wave bands (6-30 MHz). The vertical polarisation is achieved by two feeding points at the sides via symmetric cable; the 1:4 balun with SO 239-socket enables you to connect 50 Ohms coaxial cable.
